Meet My New Cousins!

Image
On Friday, November 1st, I drove to my dad's, arriving a half hour before our cousins were due to be at his front door. I wanted to be sure I had everything prepared and ready before they came. I purchased a new little Sony recording device, recommended by another cousin. (Thank you Ericka for that recommendation, I love it!) I really like that it is small and unobtrusive. Previously, I asked for permission to use it when we all met, and I was given the ok. There was no way I was going to be able to take notes and keep up with dad and his "cousin's wife" when they saw each other again, and I didn't want to miss anything!  Mom and daughter were right on time. It was so exciting seeing them walk up to the front porch, although I was a bit nervous also. It's my nature. The excitement, apprehension, anticipation, it had all built up in me.  My dad's wife was so excited that I found a new cousin connection, she could hardly stand it! She also does genea

An Italian Restaurant. The Red Lion ~ Another Pub First time I have had Jack Potatoes, pretty good too! Where is our beer? Nothing like a Mexican Beer at an English Pub, right? Maybe we should have gone to Tortilla! A bit of charming, but dusty, pub decor. Thanks for stopping by!  Wishing you success in all of your genealogical treasure hunts!

The Book of Me Written By You ~ Prompt 11 ~ Military

Image
I am participating in Julie Goucher's activity: " The Book of Me, Written by You ." This week’s prompt ~ Prompt 11 ~ Military Did you join the military?   Were you encouraged or discouraged? Did a family member join the military?   Regular or for a particular incident? Did you or your family serve overseas in the line of service either during a war or as a posting? Any thoughts, photographs, memories relevant? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I did not join the military. I never even gave it a thought. I knew when I was young what I wanted to do career wise in my life and actively persued that career. There are members of my family who have been in the military however. My uncle enlisted in the Army on Feb 12, 1943, during World War ll.  My father was in the Navy. I have numerous cousins who spent time in one branch or another. I do have a few photos of family members who have served. Some photos have not been scanned yet and their military s

This is a side view as we approach it on our walk. In the corner as we get closer to this side... …and a bit closer yet. Soooo much detail! The other side,  and then... The final view is the front of the church. Very tall wouldn't you say? The Book Of Me Written By You ~ Prompt 10 ~ Unexplained Memories

Image
I am participating in Julie Goucher's activity: " The Book of Me, Written by You ." This week’s prompt ~ Prompt 10 ~ Unexplained Memories   Do you have an unexplained memory or memories? Items Places … People   Things and times you can remember, but you are not sure where they fit into your past ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I don't really have any unexplained memories of anything that happened in my life that I can think of, and I have thought about it for awhile. I do however have something that is unexplained in my dreams! When I was a teenager, I had a recurring dream, but I can not say how often it would reoccur. Out of the blue every so often I would wake having had the same, simple dream. I had this quite often for the longest time…all it was, was marching feet and legs. That is all I saw, from the knees down to the feet. I remember seeing feet with boots, like these were soldiers marching. And, it was always the same thing,

The Book of Me Written By You ~ Prompt 9 ~ Halloween

Image
I am participating in Julie Goucher's activity: " The Book of Me, Written by You ." This week’s prompt ~ Prompt 9 ~ is Halloween Have you ever participated in a Halloween event? When was it? Where was it? What did you dress as? Trick or treat? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My memories of Halloween as a child  My only real memory is probably the very last time I actually dressed up to go trick or treating which means I was probably on the older side. It seems to me that I dressed as a hippy. I think this costume idea has been used quite a bit, don't you? I really don't have pictures or memories of Halloween which is kind of sad. I know we went trick or treating...maybe it wasn't that big of a holiday to me. I need to look around more to see if  I have any photos. My memories of Halloween as an adult These are closer memories, so I have a few. I remember sewing a dress for my step-daughter for Halloween who wanted to be a brid

This is a street sign. It took me awhile to remember to look at the buildings for the street names. The street crosses Whitehall Street, the main street where we walked. The end of Great Scotland Yard (St.) used to host the police station.  Notice the Mc Donald's sign? We stopped there because my husband wanted to taste a hamburger from the McDonald's in London. His order for a hamburger, fries and a drink was $11.00. I didn't try it at all, but he said it tasted about the same. We have tried McDonald's in Costa Rica

It was maybe a mile to Trafalgar Square, and less to other areas. We walked past the Parliament Building many, many times. Consequently, I took lots of photos, always thinking one may be better than another. This is how it looked as we walked up to it. Maybe you can get an idea how tall it is. Here, we have gotten much closer... ...and, closer yet. You can see how the angle changes the views between the photo below and the previous one. More of a central view here. A close up view with the statue. A door which I photographed at the tallest part of
