Fain Friday!
Yes, this is a most Fain Friday!
I have been diligently working to remove spammers from attempting to post on this blog. It was getting out of hand.
I am sure there were more than 3 or 4 that kept spamming here and it was getting very annoying. I would get 2 or 3 each day from each one. Not ever having much spam prior, I was about to give up. I thought this blog was done. I was ready to close it down.
I starting removing a couple widgets each day or so and noticed the spamming getting less and less. Suddenly, I was only getting one or two spams a day but I was about to give up, I wanted it all gone and I was loosing patience.
I posted on Facebook regarding the spam and my frustration and I received a response from Linda McCauley that set me back on track and thinking straight, thank you Linda. Her remark?
"A few days ago a distant cousin commented on a post from a couple of years ago. That's enough to make me tolerate the spam."
Isn't that what we all want? Immediately, I started rethinking closing the blog down, and what timing too, the spam has disappeared! I woke this morning and not even one spam message to delete! This was such a "Fain Friday" morning!
I hope it will be a long while until I see another spam message. For now, I am thrilled to start posting again!
Thanks for stopping by!
Wishing you success in all of your genealogical treasure hunts!

Cheryl, that was an easy cure. Maybe that's why I don't get spam, I only have two widgets, and they aren't for advertising. Anyway, I'm glad that issue was taken care of, and you can get back to blogging!
ReplyDeleteI clicked on this post because I thought you were going to talk about Fain Family genealogy, but I continued to read after you said you deleted some widgets and some of the spam dropped off. What widgets were those?
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing. It took me a year to track my spammer. I first thought it was coming from Facebook, then finally figured it came from Yahoo. I had taken everyone off my Yahoo list, and deleted my Yahoo account. I haven't used Yahoo ever since. It cost me my two businesses due to spam and it put me out of my businesses. Now I'm trying to re-invent myself.
ReplyDeleteSometimes new adventures are worth it. I sure hope so.
Have a Great Day...Pam
I am happy for you Cheryl, that you are going to continue to have your blog! I aslo hope you don't get any more spam, it is not very nice...Instead I hope you get many interesting and nice contacts through this!! I have never received any spam, so far, luckily ....Good luck with everything you do!
ReplyDeleteBarbara, Thank you! I did have one spam this morning, so need to check into that! I look forward to getting back to blogging!
ReplyDeleteMarti, I honestly couldn't tell you all of the widgets I removed, not sure I would remember them. I did remove the Google Plus and Facebook Widgets...and I had pone for Find A Grave, Translating, etc.
Pam, Glad you finally got your spam figured out! I am so sorry it all affected business though. I suppose if mine were for business I would have been a whole lot more upset through this! Best of luck with your new ventures! Please share!
Yvonne. I love your way of thinking! So glad you haven't ever received any spam, hopefully you never do!
Thank you all for responding! This adds to the fact that I want to continue to blog!
