Cleaning, Updating and a Challenge!

Here I am again, changing my blog theme and cleaning up a bit. I spent a few days working on this header, and for now anyway, I am happy with it. This is the first time I have made my own header, it was fun, but a challenge also. I am sure if I had directions sitting in front of me, I could have made this much faster. I do learn by trial and error a lot, and this was one of those such cases. It is not perfect, but a start.

I wanted to share some photos of where my Lundberg family was from. The land and house photos in the header were taken by cousin Janne Lundberg this month. The one picture I already had is the one with the house and my gggrandparents, Erik Andersson Lundberg and Brita Svedberg. Their daughter, my great grandmother, Marta Brita Lundberg is also shown, center, right. It really hit home when I saw the most current pictures of this area in Abborråsen, Sweden. It is amazing to me that buildings are still standing there, although somewhat falling apart. I am thrilled to share both a house from back in the day and a few pictures of how the area looks now. Do you see the resemblance of the house and other buildings?

I am still in the process of  "cleaning up" and rebuilding, so please excuse the mess, emptiness and changes along the way. I think I basically have what I am looking for now, but with me, you never know! In my younger years I used to move furniture around in my house all the time. I notice I do not do that as much anymore, but I think that energy has just moved to my blog. I am hoping this time when it is complete, this layout will stay put for awhile!

As I am going through this transition here on my blog, I ran across this challenge on Tonia Kendrick's blog, Tonia's Roots:

"31 Weeks to a Better Genealogy Blog."

Tonia states:

"This program is based on Darren’s highly popular challenge “31 Days to Build a Better Blog,” which he has made available as an e-book.  31 days does not work for my schedule (especially in the summer), so I’m switching it to a weekly challenge."

What timing for me! I LOVE her idea of making this a weekly challenge! I actually have the challenges by ProBlogger, Darren Rowse, of which Tonia is basing this program. I have had them for six months and haven't attempted any of it as of yet, so this is the PERFECT challenge for me! I do not know if I will participate in every weeks challenge or not, but I will do as many of them as possible!

Are you interested in waking up your blog posts? In a rut and need new ideas? Want a fresh start? Come on along and join me and others following Tonia's challenge! She will post the first challenge next week. Tonia will be awarding weekly "give away's" and shares what you can do in order to prepare for this challenge. If you are interested be sure to read Tonia's post!

I received Darren Rowse's "31 Days to a Better Genealogy Blog" by subscribing to his blog, Problogger. I met Tonia at Jamboree this year, although unfortunately, we didn't get to spend any real time visiting together. I am not interested in winning any of Tonia's giveaway's, as these were obtained through Jamboree. (I have the same gifts because I attended Jamboree as a Blogger.) That means, one less person you have to compete with for one of those prizes!

So what do you say? Do you want to play along with us? Do you want to build a better genealogy blog?Join in on the fun! See you there!

Thanks for stopping by!

Wishing you success in all of your genealogical treasure hunts!

  1. I have been playing around with my blog all day trying to figure out how to design it. I guess it takes time. I would love to have my own personal header too, so I think if I do it in "Paint" program, I can do a picture collage.

    I love your header!

  2. I love your header! I'll follow along on Tonia's blog but I'm not sure I'll do any changes to mine - have had too many issues with it already this year and I'm just not up to a major project - plus I'm the most uncreative person I know!

  4. Hi Cheryl, thanks for the shout-out! I like your new header, especially the little leaves you have scattered through the photos.

  5. Your new header is beautiful. I love how you've combined and arranged the photos. The house is quite lovely but it's too bad it's gone into disuse.
