Funeral Friday #1 ~ Westin Funeral Card


Since I have scanned so many funeral cards and obituary's lately I have decided to post these items on Fridays, hence the title Funeral Friday. Some of these may not actually pertain to my family, however I wish to share what I have as they may be helpful to someone. Unfortunately, most of the newspaper obits do not list a date of print nor the title of the newspaper. I will try to give location and dates that may be helpful as I can.

The 23rd Psalm is printed on the left side of this card. As far as I know at this point and time, Jonas was not related to my family in anyway, but maybe a relation will one day find this useful.

    Hi Brenda,

    When I posted this, It didn't dawn on me that there is a "Funeral Card Friday" theme that Miriam Midkiff from AnceStories and Dee Welborn, founder of Funeral Cards and Genealogy uses. There may be others also that I am unaware of. I chose to use Funeral Friday as I wanted to include obituaries also. Thank you for the comment and liking my idea. ;-)

I finally took time yesterday to do something I have been wanting to do for awhile now. It has been several years since I started genealogy and blogging. Many cousins have been found. But, how many? Sentimental Sunday ~ Western Union Telegram

Do you remember telegrams? Western Union Telegrams were a bit before my time. I have scanned the few that were kept and received by my paternal family back in the day.  This telegram was sent to my grandmother from Obed Olson stating his brother Philip had passed away on Wednesday March 9, 1960. It also let the family know that the funeral services were to be on Saturday at 2:00pm at Coop Mortuary in Hibbing, Minnesota. The telegram was to be received by Friday (which would have been March 11) and the funeral with the funeral being the next day I highly doubt my grandparents made if from California to Minnesota for the funeral. Philip and Obed Olson were my first cousin once removed. Unfortunately, I never met either of them.
