SNGF ~ My Letter to Santa

It's Saturday night genealogy fun again! Here is Randy's challenge~

"Your mission, should you decide to accept it (cue the Mission: Impossible music), is to write a nice letter to Genea-Santa Here are the directions:

1) Write a letter to Genea-Santa and ask for only ONE thing. It could be hardware, software, a missing family Bible, a record that you desperately want, etc.

2) Tell Genea-Santa what a good genea-girl or genea-boy you've been this past year and give examples.

3) Exhibit your letter on your own blog, in a Facebook post commenting on this note, or in a Comment to this blog post.

So - go forth and write your letter!

Updated 4:45 p.m.: I didn't realize that the Carnival of Genealogy would include a Dear Genea-Santa theme this year. So my advice is to ask for everything you want in the Carnival post and only one thing in your SNGF post."

Here is my letter to Santa~

Dear Genea-Santa,

The one gift I would really like for Christmas this year is to help find family members for a very sick woman who happens to be one of my blog followers.

I am trying to find her sister and mother and where her father is buried. This blog follower has been looking for a couple years that I know of to find them. She doesn't have it in her right now to continue searching. I would really like to help her find her family. Time is an issue, as always with me, but even more so because it is Christmas time. Hopefully, time won't be an issue for this woman.

I have written a letter to a lady that may be the sister of this follower. It went in the mail yesterday. I am hoping I hear a response very soon.

I need to find the cemetery where her father is buried.

His name is Clay Thomas CARLIN born 4/11/1949, died 2/11/1973 in Alameda Co. California. He hasn't been found on the Social Security Index in Ancestry. I looked at the California Tombstone Transcription Project. I have checked on Family Search. I have Googled him many times and many ways, but haven't found anything to help me. I am hoping to have time to do some newspaper research this week, I just need to join a site so I can research from home.

I have tried some ideas friends have offered, and I thank them for that. I would really love a bit of Santa's fine wisdom and time to help this woman find her father. Even if I could find a city in Alameda Co. that would be helpful.

I feel I really deserve this Christmas gift as I am not being selfish in asking for something for myself. Dear Santa if you can grant the wish you will not only make me very happy and grateful, you will be filling a wish for another as well, a very ill woman.

Thank you so much Santa! You are the best!

Hugs and kisses!

Cheryl

Thanks for stopping by!

Wishing you success in all of your genealogical treasure hunts!

UPDATE ~ Thank you to everyone who has offered suggestions. At this point I believe he has been found. I have sent an email to my friend and I am waiting to hear back from her. Because she has been so ill I am not sure when she will see my emails. When I get a response from her, I will update you with all the pertinent information in a new post.Crossing my fingers this Christmas wish has been answered!

  1. This is probably a dumb question but I'll ask anyway: has someone already tried to get his death certificate? That should have his place of burial listed. Next of kin should be able to get a copy.

  2. Hi Cheryl,

The fastest way to find out where he is buried is to obtain a California death certificate from the County he died in. It should provide information about the disposition of the body - buried, inurned, ashes spread or shipped to somewhere else.

Unfortunately, that will probably cost you $13 to get it at the County Recorder's (?? - not sure what it's called in Alameda County) office. Unless you can ask that office to let you look at the certificate without purchasing it. That used to work in San Diego but no longer.

    Good luck -- Genea-Santa!

PS. I know you've been a very good genea-girl...are you going to put cookieso ut for me again this year?

  3. Hi Elizabeth, remember, n question is ever dumb! No, she said she couldn't afford the death certificate. I was about to try to help her get an informational copy.

Hi Randy, I was about to pay for a copy myself. Right now we have something going on with this, and I will and see what to do from here. When I find out more, I will update everyone!

Thanks to both of you for the help!
oh, and by all means, Genea-Santa gets all the milk and cookies he wants, even when it isn't Christmas!
