Happy Blogiversary to me!

Today marks one full year since I started this blog. To think I was worried I wouldn't have enough to write about for a few months let alone a year. I have to say that this year has been great fun being part of the Genea-Bloggers and the blogging world.

Blogging has given me special moments to look at personal photos I may not have looked at for several more years. It gave me discipline to write about my ancestors, and during that writing time I found I focused on each individual as a person instead of thinking of them as a name and number in a census or on a chart. I have made several family connections and friends because of this blog. I have become more organized with my family history and research. In other words, to put it bluntly, genea-blogging and Genea-Bloggers ROCK!

I am so very grateful to the seasoned bloggers who have helped me along the way. It was a pleasure to meet many of you at Jamboree this year! Genea-Bloggers are the absolute best in the world! I hope to meet many more of you in the future. Even though there are quite a few that I haven't met, I feel as if I have known you all forever!

I am especially grateful for all of my readers and those followers who leave comments. I slap my hands many times because I read so many great posts and don't make the time to comment. I appreciate that you make and take the time to do so! You are going to make me a better role model, by following in your footsteps. Please know how much I enjoy all of your comments and appreciate your support!

    Happy Blogiversary! I also wondered if I would have enough to write about when I started my blog.I haven't run out of things yet. Sometimes I do wonder if anyone out there is reading. My blog isn't the greatest but I try. I am also trying to do better at leaving comments. Enjoy your blog!

Organizing ~ Cousins Found

I finally took time yesterday to do something I have been wanting to do for awhile now. It has been several years since I started genealogy and blogging. Many cousins have been found. But, how many? Who? I have not kept any kind of system to log these cousin contacts. I was past due, do I even remember all of them? Well, that was the goal here. I started a spreadsheet of "Cousins Found." I titled columns with things like, phone number, address, email address, surname, how/where we made contact, and if I have met them. I am all about meeting my living cousins and their family members, it does my heart good, plus you never know how long they will be with us. I am following  Tonia's Roots  as she brings several GeneaBloggers through 31 weeks of working towards a better blog, prompts written by Darren Rowse.  Here is this weeks challenge adapted from Darren Rowse's daily challenges which Tonia is doing as weekly challenges: Ever run out of things to write about on your blog? Sentimental Sunday ~ Western Union Telegram

Do you remember telegrams? Western Union Telegrams were a bit before my time. I have scanned the few that were kept and received by my paternal family back in the day.  This telegram was sent to my grandmother from Obed Olson stating his brother Philip had passed away on Wednesday March 9, 1960. It also let the family know that the funeral services were to be on Saturday at 2:00pm at Coop Mortuary in Hibbing, Minnesota. The telegram was to be received by Friday (which would have been March 11) and the funeral with the funeral being the next day I highly doubt my grandparents made if from California to Minnesota for the funeral. Philip and Obed Olson were my first cousin once removed. Unfortunately, I never met either of them.
