One of My Posts Makes The "Best of the Genea-Blogs" List!

I am so very honored (and still blushing) that Randy Seaver of Genea-Musings chose my article A Light That Still Shines as an article worthy of his "Best of the Genea-Blogs" column!

Each week Randy picks several articles that he feels are the best articles written from the genea-bloggers. This is a monumental task in my opinion! There are hundreds of genea-bloggers and articles written each week. So many great articles and great bloggers! Many of these bloggers have been blogging for years and have wonderful formats, stories, articles and information. Other's are new to the blogging world, and bring fresh ideas. To go through the posts and pick a few to make his list would be very tough indeed to do.

I ALWAYS read Randy's "Best of the Genea-Blogs" column as the articles he chooses are articles I don't want to miss! As I was reading his most recent column for the week of March 1-7, maybe you can understand my surprise when I ran across one of my own articles! Wow, was I stunned...

    You are worthy... in fact, every genea-blogger is worthy and it's hard to pick out the subjective "best of..." each week.

    Bloglines makes the task really east for me. i'm up to 430 blogs on thel ist, and I read every day for maybe 30 minutes - it probably average 100 to 150 blog posts a day. I use a quick "read it once" method to pick the ones, then write them down on a list.

    On Sunday, I go through my short list and pare it down (there's usually 20-30 on it) and write up thep ost - it usually takes 60 to 90 minutes.

    I love doing it because it brings traffic to my site and yours, and we both deserve it! And I can usually find your great post in my key word list.

    Did you get a Blogalanche in your blog visit numbers? That usually happens for all of us when someone provides al ink.

I finally took time yesterday to do something I have been wanting to do for awhile now. It has been several years since I started genealogy and blogging. Many cousins have been found. But, how many? Who? I have not kept any kind of system to log these cousin contacts. I was past due, do I even remember all of them? Well, that was the goal here. I started a spreadsheet of "Cousins Found." I titled columns with things like, phone number, address, email address, surname, how/where we made contact, and if I have met them. Sentimental Sunday ~ Western Union Telegram

Do you remember telegrams? Western Union Telegrams were a bit before my time. I have scanned the few that were kept and received by my paternal family back in the day.  This telegram was sent to my grandmother from Obed Olson stating his brother Philip had passed away on Wednesday March 9, 1960. It also let the family know that the funeral services were to be on Saturday at 2:00pm at Coop Mortuary in Hibbing, Minnesota. The telegram was to be received by Friday (which would have been March 11) and the funeral with the funeral being the next day I highly doubt my grandparents made if from California to Minnesota for the funeral. Philip and Obed Olson were my first cousin once removed. Unfortunately, I never met either of them.
