My Sister's Move

Image
A couple of weeks ago I had the great honor of helping my daughter's family move. Yes, I know the title says "My Sister's Move." We will get there soon, I promise.
When I went to my daughter's house, just about everything still needed to be packed. She is so busy for sure, but still, so much to pack? Wow. I jumped in and quickly became one of the packers, movers and cleaners of the old house. I became shelf liner and cleaner at the new house, and unpacker also. This kept me busy for a good week or so. I was so happy when I was done, it was a lot of work in really a short amount of time. When I was done, I was done!

I want to know when the rules changed about moving? When did it become popular to pack and move on the same day? I have never heard of that before, and now it has happened twice in a very short amount of time. I knew though, after this one, I wasn't helping anyone else move for a very long time! I would only pack and move myself if that had to ha…

Funeral Friday

A couple days ago I became aware of a cousin who moved (temporarily) close to me, so close it is only 20-30 minutes maximum to drive there.
I was excited to hear she was back in the state and hoped we could get together. Then, sad news came, she was here to care for her daughter who had cancer. I have never actually met this cousin, or her daughter, but I took this news pretty hard. I offered to be of assistance in any way shape or form they might need me.
The next email came and I learned my cousin's daughter has  actually passed away. She was only 50 years old and battled cancer for 3 1/2 years. The news shocked me and I felt hopeless and extremely sad. I never had the opportunity to help them, or meet Pam. I know my cousin is having a very difficult time especially because the funeral is tomorrow, Friday morning at 10:30. The mass/service is in the town right next to mine. I want to go and support the family.
After I learned this today, my husband came home and informed me a past …

Conference of California Historical Societies

Image
I have been a member of my local genealogy society for 6 years. Because I am so busy all of the time I hadn't been very active with the group until a couple of years ago.
That was when I received a phone call asking if I would consider being a board member. The rest is history. I am still a board member and I am grateful my job this year is more manageable for me than the one I had last year. If it weren't for the phone call, I am not sure I would be active yet with the society. I do what my job entails and try to help out more when and where I can, but still, my time is always so limited.

Last month one of our society members was awarded a very prestigious, individual award. This award is a state wide award which was presented to him at the annual meeting of the "Conference of California Historical Societies."
George Anderson was awarded for helping "to nurture and preserve our priceless heritage."
George has been a member of our society for many years, mayb…

Those Places Thursday ~ San Francisco Public Library

Image
Finally, someone to traipse around and do genealogy things with!
Angela and I hooked up and took a trip to the San Francisco Library a couple of weeks ago. We each had been wanting to get a library card from there so we could use their online information.
Book sale at the library.
As much as I hate driving in the city, it wasn't a bad drive at all. We arrived without incident. As always parking is a premium in San Francisco. Many cars were parked in the middle of the street, here, there and everywhere. I followed suit and off we were, anxious to see the library.

We applied for our card, done on a computer in the lobby. It took no time at all to get our cards and off we went to explore.

The library has many off the wall angles and shapes.

Upon checking out the library, I thought I found some information on one my daughter's second uncles. The name was correct, the occupation was correct, so I asked if they would pull the file for me. After going through the file a couple of times w…

My Newest Blog!

I have always taken lots of photos. I LOVE photos. It is not uncommon for me to take 500 plus photos a day on any adventure. From there, I try to get the "best" photos to keep and or share.
I find it difficult to share these photos at times and have debated about how may be best to do that. I have shared them on a website and in books, but still, many people don't get to see them.
I have opted to start a new blog, my Heritage Happens in Photos. This is a blog of photos I take during my personal adventures in life. Some photos may have been taken in the past, but most will probably be current. I am not an expert photographer or anything, I do it for fun. So, if you are expecting to learn something or see fantastic photos, think again. You may get lucky and learn what NOT to do from my errors, but that is about it.
I took a cruise earlier this year to Alaska, I am posting photos of this trip. In fact, I have already started with photos from our departure point in San Francis…
