"My" Swedish Adventure~Resan~The Household Calvary Museum, London~Post 28

"My" Swedish Adventure ~ Förbereda (Preparing)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is the front of the Museum. Upon leaving Buckingham Palace, and NOT seeing the changing of the guard, we took a short cut back heading through the back side of this museum.
This is a close up view of the front.
and the signs posted about the museum, gift shop
and the Queen's Life Guard.
Here is a guard coming through to the front for duty.
A bit closer view.
After going through the archway to the back, this is the view to the right. The left side of the building is where we came from to take the shortcut to the front. This meant we avoided going back through Trafalgar Square and saved us a lot of walking.
Close up of the statue. I see I was able to get the flags in the photo also.
Now, a bit closer view of the cannon.
The Book of Me Written By You~Prompt 24~Favorite Color
I am participating in Julie Goucher's activity:
This weeks prompt ~ Favorite Color
Do you have a favorite color? And if so why?
Do you like vibrant colors or darker colors?
Do you associate anyone with a particular color? If so why?
Does your favorite color reflect your personality?
``````````````````````````````````````````
I have always had a favorite color! It has always been blue.

I have never anaylzed why I like the color blue, I just know it calms and puts me at peace when I see it. Maybe because it reminds me of water? I love water! It can be an ocean, stream, lake, pond or pool. It doesn't matter, I just love the water. Or maybe it reminds me of the sky?  The never ending eternal sky…I am not sure, I just know I have always been partial to blue.

Mono Lake, Mono, California. Photo: Sept 26, 2009. Taken and held by Cheryl Palmer [address for private use] California.

A few years ago I found myself growing partial to another color for the first time. Purple. Well, it does have blue in it, right? I blame adding this color on one of the brand new Harley's I owned. It was a purple Low Rider which we purchased in April 2001. I loved the color and the bike. The bike was purchased because I wanted to ride to Sturgis. I wanted to say "I did it!"

It is a dream of many Harley riders. I owned a new 1999 black Sportster at the time. I never felt totally comfortable on it, so when I decided I wanted to ride to Sturgis my husband said I needed a bigger bike. Along came my Low Rider.

2001 Harley Davidson Low Rider photographed with the future owner. Photo August 27, 2009. Taken and held by Cheryl Palmer [address for personal use] California.

This is not the best photo of the bike as far as seeing the color, but it was awesome. I proceeded to purchase all of my accessories in purple to match the bike. Jewelry, clothes, scarves, you name it. I loved how the bike rode, it felt balanced. My Sportster always felt  "top heavy" to me.

I believe I became a better rider with this bike, especially since I rode it all the way to Sturgis, South Dakota and back. I loved the bike and believe I went through withdrawals when I sold it, even though I had purchased another new and bigger Harley. I have loved everything purple since then!

"My" Swedish Adventure~Resan~Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace~Post 27

Finally, the band comes through the street...

...and enters the gates into the Palace.

To the disappointment of the crowd, unless you were up against the fence, you couldn't see the changing of the guard! I share the photo below showing the two blurred "red guards" inside the gate, where the event was carried out. We heard the band, but that was all, and could not see the event. Very disappointing, especially because of how the ropes were all set up for people to stage. It was a bit deceiving.

After the changing of the guard, we saw the exiting of the participants...

...as well as the band.

Now, they did go right past us...

...to the gate, and exited down the street we walked up to get to the palace.

Here they are heading down the street to the side gate of the palace I shared earlier. And that my friends, was the changing of the guard!

Lesson to share~

If you attempt to see the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, head there a couple of hours early so you can get a spot against the gate in front of the palace. We thought we did good leaving an hour early.

Pretty snazzy uniforms wouldn't you say?

This was the worst thing I think that happened on our trip! The worst meaning, missing the changing of the guard? Yep, that was the worst of the trip!

The Book of Me Written By You~Prompt 23~Memory Board

I am participating in Julie Goucher's activity:
This week's prompt is – Memory Board
- How do you see the point of a memory board
- Why keep one?
- Do you keep one? Or will you?
This could be a cork board in your office, kitchen or regular space? If you do what do you keep on it? and why?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have never kept a memory board and do not anticipate having one. The closest thing I can think of to have something like this is when my children were young and I posted their school or craft items on the refrigerator. I now have these things packed away, those that I want to keep forever.
I do save some papers of my grandchildren's coloring and pictures also. I have a special box just for their items. Cards they have made us, maybe a special craft or two. When each of my grandchildren were in pre-school (the second one is just finishing up there) they made Valentines cards to send to grandma and grandpa. They were such a wonderful surprise to receive in the mail!
Stamped and mailed to us!
Written by the princess!
When I was a teenager it was poplar to have a scrapbook and I enjoyed having one. I remember saving "my head gear" from when I had braces. I saved high school moments in it also. I haven't looked at it in years. I am sure one day when I find it to scan, I will be sharing what is inside.
As an adult, I used to save concert tickets and award papers. I do have some items like this in our appropriate binder for our surnames with my genealogy. I have piles of scanning to do (a couple years ago I scanned almost 1,000 items and got burned out-but now I need to get back to it!), and once I scan most paper type items they will be saved digitally.
If items are not paper, I do have them saved in archival boxes, which I look at occasionally and beyond that most everything else is photographed at least. More than anything at this point I want my items saved digitally, forever! I feel I have enough mess to organize that I do not need a memory board at this time. My "memories" are stored elsewhere, for now.
