Funeral Friday #5 ~ Andrew Holman Obit


Since I have scanned so many funeral cards and obituary's lately I have decided to post these items on Fridays, hence the title Funeral Friday. Some of these may not actually pertain to my family, however I wish to share what I have as they may be helpful to someone. Unfortunately, most of the newspaper obits do not list a date of print nor the title of the newspaper. I will try to give location and dates that may be helpful as I can.

This may have been printed in the Wadena Pioneer Journal, exact date unknown, abt. 1957.





Andrew Holman

Andrew Holman, 87 an old time resident of Wadena County, died at Shady Lane Rest Home last Sunday, the immediate cause of death being cancer. Funeral Services were held Tuesday afternoon, at the Folkestad Funeral Home, Rev. Manlove officiating, and interment was made in the West Lyons Cemetery.

Mr. Holman was born May 29, 1870, in Norway to John and Gertrude Holman, and farmed for a great many years here. He was united in marriage with Miss Nina Torgeson at Dalton, Minn., June 29, 1893, she having preceded him in death.

Surviving sons and daughters are: John, Wheelock, N.D.; Ole and Ted, both of Verndale; Mrs. Hulda Buckley, Wadena; Mrs. Andrew Schimpp, Staples; Mrs. Fritz Hindahl, Staples, and Mrs. Frank Marshall, Norfolk, Neb.


As far as I am aware at this time, Andrew Holman does not fit in my family tree.

    I am Hayden Carlson, age 10. Andrew Holman is my great great grandfather.My great grandmother is Mrs. (Mayme)Andrew Schimpp. I love that you found this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I am doing an immigrant project at school and I can't believe I found this!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks!!!

Sentimental Sunday ~ Western Union Telegram

Do you remember telegrams? Western Union Telegrams were a bit before my time. I have scanned the few that were kept and received by my paternal family back in the day.  This telegram was sent to my grandmother from Obed Olson stating his brother Philip had passed away on Wednesday March 9, 1960. It also let the family know that the funeral services were to be on Saturday at 2:00pm at Coop Mortuary in Hibbing, Minnesota. The telegram was to be received by Friday (which would have been March 11) and the funeral with the funeral being the next day I highly doubt my grandparents made if from California to Minnesota for the funeral. Philip and Obed Olson were my first cousin once removed. Unfortunately, I never met either of them.
